A Bronze Age Adventure: Longlands School Explores History at Burwardsley Centre

Longlands School recently embarked on an exciting Bronze Age adventure at the Burwardsley Centre, creating lasting memories and gaining valuable insights into the past. The day was filled with hands-on activities, archaeological discoveries, and a lot of enthusiastic learning.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the time spent inside a traditional roundhouse. The children were captivated by the historical paintings that adorned the walls, showcasing scenes from the Bronze Age. One child remarked, "I liked the pictures on the wall in the roundhouse, my favourite was the deer and the bear." This immersive experience brought history to life, allowing the students to visualise and connect with the ancient way of life.

The hands-on activities were a hit among the students. Engaging in the art of pottery, they shaped clay into pots, and one child shared, "I enjoyed making the pots; my favourite part was rolling the clay and making the swirl." The artistic flair extended to crafting tribal bracelets, with a promise to share the newfound skills with family members. One student expressed, "I enjoyed making the tribal bracelets, and I am going to teach my family."

The adventure continued with an archaeological dig, where the young archaeologists unearthed clues about the Bronze Age. This interactive experience not only sparked excitement but also broadened their understanding of how people lived during that era.

The learning didn't stop there. The students were fascinated by the practical lessons offered at the Burwardsley Centre. One child excitedly shared, "I learnt how to make flour from wheat; it was so cool." Another discovery involved understanding the use of weights in making cloth blankets, providing a glimpse into the resourcefulness of Bronze Age communities.

As the day unfolded, the children couldn't contain their excitement. One child exclaimed, "It was the best day ever!" They left the Burwardsley Centre not only with newfound knowledge about the Bronze Age but also with souvenirs from their memorable trip.

The Bronze Age experience at Burwardsley Centre not only enriched the children's understanding of history but also left them with cherished memories. Longlands School's visit was a testament to the power of experiential learning in making education not just informative but truly unforgettable.
